In illustrated literature, and especially in children’s literature, creating a memorable character goes beyond making beautiful strokes. Within a narrative the importance of creating solid and convincing characters is essential, as they will be the actors who step on the stage. To achieve this, two things are needed: curiosity to get into the lives of the characters and the ability to transfer this curiosity to the role in a children’s illustration.

You will give your first strokes with some exercises that will be useful to improve your drawing skills, focused on improving your ability to observe as raw material of the drawing. Pay attention, because Teresa will also give you a lot of theory about character design.
You will start working on the design of your character. Teresa will show you the steps she follows to sketch her characters, with special emphasis on proportions, facial expressions and, finally, her body expression.
Then you will assemble the model sheet of your character with a frontal view, various postures and facial expressions. Then you will color one of the poses drawn and thus define its color palette.
Finally, Teresa will give you some tips that have been helpful when working as a team and achieving a better understanding when collaborating on a publication.
